My Recipe Jar: Facebook For Foodies?

My Recipe Jar is a new social networking site designed to make recipe collecting and food shopping easier. Users can file, edit and share their favourite recipes, create shopping lists and cherry-pick the best recipes from their friends? recipe jars.

As its name implies, My Recipe Jar is a virtual hub for cooking. It allows users to fill their ?jar? with up to 50 favourite recipes, store printed recipe clippings (via typing or digital photos), create shopping lists to share via email or SMS and share recipes between friends. You can also personalise recipes by adding photos of the dishes and the person who shared the recipe. For secretive bakers, you can also mark select recipes as private so only you can see them.

According to the app?s creators, My Recipe Jar represents a shift away from generalist social networking towards more focused offerings. (Even Facebook has shed around 390,000 since the beginning of the year, if social media monitoring firm Social Bakers? data is to be believed.)

?What sets My Recipe Jar apart is that it is about your recipes and your friends,? co-developer Ritu Bajaj said. ?It?s not about having access to one hundred recipes for a chocolate cake; it?s about having access to your own tried and tested recipe for the best chocolate cake or a trusted recipe from your family and friends.?

In addition to the browser version, My Recipe Jar has also been released as an app iPhone and the iPad which cam be snapped up from the App Store for $1.99. (Data can be continuously backed up and synced between three devices via a secure login process.) There?s no word on when an Android version will be made available.
