KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you candid reviews and ratings of fantasy baseball players making MLB news in your rotisserie or head-to-head baseball leagues. Are they trade bait or worth your FAAB dollars in your fantasy baseball games?
Dan Straily, SP, Oakland Athletics
As you've heard (and, if you could stomach it, seen), Brandon McCarthy took a heat-seeker of a comeback liner off his coconut. He's recovering from surgery and can be ruled out for the rest of the season. Send him some positive mojo.
The A's are still - yep, still - pressing for a playoff spot, and they have depth at pitcher to absorb a blow like this. The club pushed Travis Blackley into the bullpen when they no longer needed his services, but he's obviously an option to replace McCarthy.
The A's would appear to be leaning in another direction, however. Hotshot rook Dan Straily was scheduled to start tonight for Class AAA Sacramento, but the club has replaced him, a possible indication that the parent club intends to summon him back to Oaktown. In three MLB starts this season, Straily went 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA, a 6.35 K/9 and a 2.12 BB/9.
Clearly, Straily's stuff doesn't play as dominantly as it has on the farm (take a look at those numbers!). The 23-year-old doesn't seem to waste too many pitches, however, and his fly-ball stuff should play well at the O.co. Just keep in mind that there's a lot of risk involved; he's not an elite prospect with a killer arsenal, and he has some flaws.
Still, Straily appears to be Oakland's choice, at least initially, and he should start this weekend, if he is. From start to start, he may be difficult to predict, but there's decent upside here.

Jake Odorizzi, SP, Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Star's Bob Dutton writes that this lauded pitching prospect is a candidate for a call-up later this month. The logic is sound.
A couple of months into the 2012 campaign, it became clear to the organization that Double-A hitters were no longer much of a challenge to retire for Odorizzi. He's been pretty impressive at Class AAA Omaha this year, too, as you can see on his Fangraphs page. Heck, he earned Pitcher of the Year honors for the farm affiliate.
Odorizzi may not even get the call to do anything but watch, but he could appear in relief or even make a start or two. If that kind of thing could help you, or it'd be your first opportunity to grab this 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-hander in your keeper league, then don't wait.
